Vintage Eugene Dietzgen No. 1801 Planimeter Germany In Original Case

Description

Circa 1930, this planimeter is going to make a great addition to someone's collection!
Manufactured by the Eugene Dietzgen Company, this No. 1801 polar planimeter comes in its 'as found' condition and it's in the original case.  (The case is also marked "Made in Germany" on the bottom.)  The instrument shows normal signs of use, and has not been misused or abused.  There are a few spots where the black finish is worn from normal use, but those spots are small and are not visually distracting or offensive.  There is no rust or oxidation on the metal parts.  Points and tips remain sharp.
The case is also in very good condition.  The top is not loose, the hinges and clasp remain firmly attached - not loose or misaligned.  The canvas covering isn't ripped or torn, but there are wear spots on the corners and bottom edges, which is shown in the accompanying photos.
I know what the tool is and what it does, but I don't know how it was used, so I've described it to the best of my ability.  It is a scarce instrument from a well known, desirable and collectible maker.  If I have omitted an important aspect, please ask for more details.
